GroomingLounge.com gives us the scoop on how to achieve superstar ‘stache status
With the mid-month mark of November just about here, we can finally start to see all of those Movember mustaches really come to life. While some men have a natural ability to pull off utterly flawless above-the-lip foliage, some others, well, could use a little help. Low and behold, the men’s grooming experts at Grooming Lounge have created a foolproof guide to help guys replicate their favorite iconic styles. Whether you’re new to the month of mustachery or need a fresh perspective after years of participation, look no further for some tips, tricks and inspiration to have your best Movember yet!
CHEVRON
This is a thick and wide mustache that covers the top border of the upper lip. Though it’s usually worn long, don’t let it grow so long that it mixes with your lunch – trim it up with a pair of Zwilling/J.A. Henckels Moustache Scissors. Wrangle your mustache and keep it crumb-free by running through it with the compact Kent 81T Moustache and Beard Comb. Keep your follicles moisturized and uber-soft with a bit of Bluebeards Original Beard Saver. When you’re done, you’ll have a ‘stache so fine it could make a wolverine purr. (photo credit)
HANDLEBAR/PETIT HANDLEBAR
A handlebar mustache can be worn large or small (“petit handlebar”) and must be worn long enough to curl the ends upward. Easily shape and mold to desired handlebar height with the classic Clubman Pinaud Moustache Wax. Deviously twirl ends of mustache at your own risk. (photo credit)
HORSESHOE
To properly get the full horseshoe shape, grow whiskers along the sides of the mouth down to the jawline. Use the Philips Norelco QT4070 Vacuum Beard, Stubble and Mustache Trimmer Pro for when you need to reign in unruly follicles. Keep thicker ‘staches soft and moisturized with Bluebeards Original Beard Saver. If any extra styling help is needed, hold upside down horseshoe up to your face. (photo credit)
PAINTER’S BRUSH
This “Old Hollywood” style mustache is short, substantial and covers the width of the mouth. First, clean out the hair you want to keep with Bluebeards Original Beard Wash and shave the rest away. When you’re ready to shape, use the ACE For Men Detail Facial Scissors to ever so slightly round off the corners and finish off the style with a little bit of Clubman Pinaud Moustache Wax. PENCIL MUSTACHES
This thin, narrow, closely-clipped mustache outlines the upper lip. To see what you’re doing as you create the proper streamlined shape, use translucent Zirh Shave Gel. ACE For Men Detail Facial Scissors are the perfect tool to keep your stache’s lines nice and tight. (photo credit)
TOOTHBRUSH
Massage Grooming Lounge Beard Master Shave Oil into your whole face while it’s wet. Shave your face, careful not to get rid of everything, and leave a small, inch-wide “hair-island” right under the schnoz. Throw on some moisturizing Grooming Lounge Best For Last Aftershave and you’re officially the proud owner of a classic Chaplin ‘stache. (photo credit)
WALRUS
This large, bushy, droopy mustache hangs down over the lips and generally covers the entire mouth. Start off with the Grooming Lounge Beard Master Shave Oil and shave away, making certain to rid your mug of any copious follicles that aren’t Tom Selleck-approved. Pay careful attention as you shave to maintain your stache’s manly figure, then throw on a dollop of Bluebeards Original Beard Saver to moisturize and soften the ‘stache. (photo credit)
PYRAMID MUSTACHES
Pyramidal mustaches are narrow on top and wide on the bottom just like their namesake. Keep your ‘stache soft and moisturized with Bluebeards Original Beard Saver. The pharaohs kept treasures in their pyramids, but you shouldn’t: keep your mustache free of unidentified objects by grooming with the compact Kent 81T Moustache and Beard Comb. (photo credit)
